Kokosing Construction Company was bestowed The Associated General Contractors of America’s “AGC in the Community Award” for its generous donations to food charities in 2013. A total of over $175,000 was raised through employee and company contributions. These gifts, distributed to over 38 food banks across the Midwest, ultimately brought nourishment and relief to individuals and families in the communities of Kokosing offices and projects.

As a result, Kokosing was one of 10 organizations selected nationwide to win the “AGC in the Community Award.” Presented at AGC’s annual conference, “The awards recognize chapter service projects that epitomize the essence of charitable giving, through actual hands-on service and donations to charitable organizations.”

Kokosing’s Executive Vice President, Marsha Rinehart says, “This award is a public acknowledgement of the pride and efforts that our incredible employees take in the communities where they work and live. We believe that this recognition is a vivid reflection of a commitment to our core ideology. ‘Being a good member of the community’ is something that our employees value and honor with great personal responsibility.”

Every September, Kokosing employees participate in a campaign to raise funds and collect nonperishable food items. For every item that an employee donates, Kokosing donates $1, and for every dollar that an employee donates, Kokosing donates $2. With employees donating 5,167 food items and $56,805, the total donated to food charities exceeded $175,000 which became its top-producing campaign since starting the program in 2009.

Former AGC President, Douglass E. Barnhart, who helped spearhead this award that showcases community service, echoes Rinehart’s sentiments, “Construction has provided us with a great opportunity to work hard and succeed. What better way to show our appreciation than to give back to our communities and share our success with worthy causes benefitting those in need.”

Other key community investments put forth by Kokosing include employee fundraising campaigns for both Midwest children’s hospitals and the United Way, as well as sponsorship of both youth organizations and The American Red Cross. Furthermore, Kokosing and its employees have donated time and money to the completion of an orphanage in Haiti and a handicap-friendly baseball complex in Butler County, Ohio.
