The existing roadway was prone to multiple slides requiring numerous repairs over the years. The realignment work includes mass excavation of approximately 1.7-million-cubic-yards of excavation of dirt and rock, installation of 320-feet-long combination secant/soldier pile and lagging retaining wall, paving of approximately 18,000-tons of new asphalt pavement, construction of a new concrete slab bridge, and installation of new drainage and erosion control features.
